Introduced in 1970 this block differs from all other small blocks in many areas. Some of which are the use of a bigger bore, larger main bearing journals, longer stroke, shorter rods and siameased cylinder walls. This engine was dropped at the end of 1980. This block can safely be bored 0.030-inch, and a possible max bore of 0.060-inch. The four-bolt block was produced from 1970 through 1972 and the two-bolt block was produced from 1973 through 1980. The two and four-bolt blocks can be identified by the number of freeze plugs on the side of the block: 4-bolt Main block has 3 freeze plugs 2-bolt Main block has 2 freeze plugs |
